Ah college, one of the most important gateways in one's life. Not only does it lead to you getting a better job but also most importantly it's where you go to further your education, something no one can take from you no matter what age you are, what your economic status is, or whatever occurs in life. The college decision is a timeless event throughout history, it's one that almost every successful person, or anyone who aspired to be successful/educated further, has made; and people will continue to make it so why not make it the right decision. So ask yourself a few question's; do I know what college I'm going to attend? if so is it the right one for me?, how will this college benefit me? and does it satisfy what I am looking to attain from it?, am I willing to take that loan or work those extra hours to pay the tuition for the college I am more interested in yet can barely afford? All these questions must be considered when making a decision that can, in all senses of the word, change your life.
Before I get into the important stuff I'd like to tell you a little about me, a college student who went through the whole, as I like to call it, "Preparing for College Struggle". Now in high school, let's just say I was not the best example of a good student; I slacked off and never took my education or even my future into consideration. My whole four years of high school seemed to fly by, and not once during that time did I think about college, my major, or my career. On that note, here's some advice high school students; start thinking about your college now. Whether your a freshmen or senior it's never to early or late, in fact the sooner the better; trust me it helps you in the long run you do not want to have to go through what I did. Anyway about me, my name is Daljit Singh, and like I stated earlier I am a college student who attends York College in New York. To be honest, if you were to ask me whether or not I was happy with my college decision my answer would probably be no; but that's a long story which not the topic of this blog; although I guess with out those experiences I wouldn't feel urged to write this to help others. One thing I am happy with is my major, which is Communications Technology with a minor in Pre-Law. Discovering this major was possibly one of the best things that could ever happen to me it really interest me and with it I was able to choose my career path, which is to one day be a computer programmer. It shows that no matter how late you are into the game you can really find good out of a bad situation.
I remember those days when i was preparing for college. it was the most tressful thing in my life but the most amazing event in my life because i met alot of amazing people and most of all i was able to make my OWN schedule and take classes that i wanted to take. college is fun once you get the hang of it and in the end its the BEST decision you can make because you will always be okay int he job area because you have a paper that puts you a step ahead of everyone else who starts at the bottom. I am in college taking up English/Journalism Minor. i want to be a writer and write books and do what Tyler Perry does with making movies out his plays and one day own my own production studios.
ReplyDeleteWow, very informative and useful to anyone who would visit your blog. I think college is definitely a must. I know we all don't necessarily want to be in College but we realize it's a way to make up for us slacking in the past and doing what is necessary for us to have a better future. I like that you put it's never to late or to early because that is so true.
ReplyDeleteThis is something that every high school student and every young adult should read. A college education can seem meaningless in today's job market place. However it still acts as a significant help when it comes to finding a job. Most kids my age do not value what they learn in college, they barely make an effort. I admit I myself have had lazy moments and was also not as focused in high school as I currently am.I have learned to value education more and it's because I went to college which allowed me to learn what I wanted to learn. Great message for young adults and high school students.

ReplyDeleteYou have some great advice. I wish I could tell my high school self this. I can relate so much to what you are saying. I never tried to think of what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go to get an education. Looking back I see how early preparation would have ultimately saved me from so much grief and frustration. I think that a lot of high school students should take this advice. I wish I could get this through to my little brother. He is so focused on the present that he never tries to think of his future.
ReplyDeleteThis is very informative and at the same time truthful. I agree, it is never to early to start thinking about College. High school students should enter College with a serious attitude, they should be serious about College. It is no joke, there is a lot of work to do and students are one step towards a carrier. I also did not take high school very serious, but when I started College it was different. College is a very important decision in life, some people choose to go to College and others do not. The reason I would not want to fool around is beause the money for college comes from my pocket so I do not take it serious I would be wasting money in my perspective.
